Wrapped in a great cloak, The Hermit advances slowly, leaning on his staff, a lantern raised before him. It lights only the next step — and that is enough for him. The elder among the arcana, he embodies wisdom earned through experience, patient searching, and voluntary retreat far from the world's noise.
This card announces a time of slowing down and introspection. Projects ripen slowly; nothing is gained by forcing. It favors study, research, inner stocktaking, consulting a wise person. It advises prudence, discretion and patience: what is built now is built to last. Its shadow: isolation settling in, distrust, miserliness of the heart. Its light is small but true — it shows only the essential.
